Artist’s Biography
As a young man of twenty, I moved from the rural farmland of southern Ontario to the Rocky Mountains to
work at the Banff Springs Golf Course. This was my introduction to the mountains and wilderness.
Working outdoors every day amidst the majestic mountains, forested slopes, and watching the powerful Bow and Spray River instilled an appreciation of the natural landscape. The light changed from sunrise to sunset, season to
season.
Back then, my only experience in drawing came from the art of sketching landscape plans or directing
staff to locations on the golf course. Working on a world-class course opened my eyes to the art in golf course
architecture and the landscape. Later in my forties, I started watercolour painting. These days, I enjoy starting a
landscape en plein air at one of the endless picturesque locations in Jasper National Park.
