Norene Cooper

As a long time resident of Alberta. Norene has taken advantage of a variety of landscapes including mountains, lakes, rural prairie and historic buildings. She has utilized her skills to emulate the essence of the province and personify what each image means to her as demonstrated through her work. Norene has been an accomplished artist since the mid 70’s and a professional seamstress for 40 years.

Norene enjoys utilizing a multitude of medium tools to express her work and profess to have a mastery of pastels, pen and ink, pencil, watercolour on rice paper and acrylics. Because of her ambition and enthusiasm, she has become prolific in all areas and has had the opportunity to display her work at many shows. Norene enjoys demonstrating her love for art, both in its’ beauty and development and embraces any given chance to excite another about her trade.

Her artwork has been showcased in the Red Deer Museum, Alberta Senior Games, The Jasper Park Lodge, Artist’s Own Gallery and various locations of her home-town in Hinton. Norene held her first solo show in Edson, Alberta in 1996, which was a great accomplishment for her as an artist. She has studied with a variety of individuals including, Ron Wigglesworth, Paul Braid, Doris McCarthy, Gesela Felsberg, Bars Brooks, Derek Van Wyck and Jerry Heine, to mention a few.

In addition, Norene has received a number of scholarships and awards from the ACACA as a result of her talent namely, the Lillian Nunn, Hean Stephensen and Constance McFarlane. She also has several gold medals and ribbons won at Alberta Senior Games to add to her portfolio.

She continues to use her expertise to look for new distinctive ways of capturing the history and beauty around us.
