Since
birth, the Canadian Rockies have been my mountainous home. As the grandson
of George Camp, an early Jasper park warden, my family history has been
intimately connected to this majestic, historical setting for four generations.
My father, Frank Deagle, came from a lineage of musicians and encouraged
my great love of the piano.
Since adolescence, I was fascinated by European art history. Through
books and travel I worked my way back though history from French Impressionism,
to the great Romantic painters, Goya, Rembrandt, and eventually the
fabled epoch of the high Renaissance. I furthered my art studies in
Vancouver, BC where I obtained an art history degree.
For many years I focused on the
art of drawing before embracing oil on canvas as my ultimate medium.
However varied my expressions, landscape art has become a familiar base
even after prolonged excursions into alternative regions. A deluded
romantic fi ghting for survival in the new millenium, I distract myself
by painting, playing piano, writing and dreaming.
My art is motivated by my conviction
that it would be impossible for me to create a work of art that does
not refl ect the power of the environment in which I live.
