Having
grown up in Montreal in the 50’s and 60’s in a family
of professional
photographers and artists, my interest in art developed naturally.
From doodling, while
sitting on my grandmother’s lap, to attending 'vernissages'
and visiting artists’ studios with
my father before my teens, and from helping at ‘L’Echoppe’,
my parents eclectic gallery
to touring sculpture symposiums and galleries on my own as a teenager,
art infi ltrated my
life. I enrolled for a term in ‘Arts Plastiques’ at the
C.E.G.E.P du Vieux Montreal.
In the early 70’s moving to
Jasper, Alberta continued to satisfy my aesthetic needs,
by immersing me in a live theater within the beauty of the mountains
and the delicate
tenderness of the woods. Since 2000, these infl uences are fi nally
being channeled onto the
canvas, various techniques are explored both in the classroom or
on my own. An organic
and surrealist rendition of lifeforms is oozing brightly in acrylics.
What a feeling!
Each individual’s perception of art
and beauty through all senses particularly fascinates
me. The senses act as a conduit between viewer and artist, forming
the basis of art
appreciation. What relationship is established by my work? Can a
whisper or scream
be heard, an inner pull felt, or the desire to run a fi nger along
a certain line? Can certain
works illicit a need to take a deep breath, or leave the palate moist
with desire? My
attempt is to 'verbalize' the viewer’s emotion on the canvas.
These artistic challenges light my future.
