Sculpture,
painting, drawing, design, and photography have been integral parts
of my life since a very young age.
I am inspired to paint by the delight, surprise and almost disbelief
I feel upon finding myself in the most beautiful and fascinating landscapes,
immersed in their atmospheres, ethereal and stunning. The play of
wind, weather, season, shadow, illumination, and colour, draw me into
these environments. I feel honoured to have witnessed a scene of beauty,
a moment of quiet reverence, whether I am at the top of a mountain
in a snowstorm, sheltered in a quiet forest of snow covered trees,
near ocean, river or lake, in the lushness of the coastal rainforests
of B.C., the magnificent Canadian Rockies, or the old sacred hills
of the Gatineau Park, Quebec.
I enjoy creating detailed, realistic clay figures and designs that
embody the mystical, the natural, the emotional and otherworldly realms.
I envision my sculptures emerging, life like and often life sized,
from the natural environment; from stone, floating above wild grass
meadows, overlooking the ocean on giant beach boulders, amongst the
trees, plants and flowers, and emerging from water. My interest is
in exploring the myriad possibilities of the human form in relationship;
within the self, with others, and within an environment. Inside this
context exist themes of contemplation, self expression, movement,
strength, connection, presence and awareness, and the pure enjoyment
of being divinely in this body, whether feeling the wind’s caress,
intimately entwined in a lover’s embrace, or alone in meditative
stillness.
