I
started on my artistic endeavors at a early age, growing up in England
in the 40;s I drew to amuse myself. As I got older it became a passion
that has stayed with me. On leaving school I attended collage to persue
a career in engerneering, my other passion. In 1964 I graduated with
my City and Guilds, immigrating to Canada in 1973 with my wife and children
we settled in Calgary. 1978 saw a move to Jasper were I still live.
Having the good fortue to live in the majesty of the Canadian rockies
inspired me to start painting more landscapes. Admiring the impressionists
has had a influence on my stle over the years I have changed from realistic
to what I call ' impressionist realism.' I have learned to simplify
and make large shapes of the subject before me.
Light and colour also play a big part in my art, I also like to find
a different perspective or point of view on the scenes that I depict.
Primarily I work in watercolours, also some acrylic, but my main interest
is the pencil. Through my art I hope that I depict the joy that I get
in being able to be in the beauty that surrounds us.
